Taking part in CARE is easy – you can join regardless of your age, if you are a permanent, fixed-term contract or temporary employee of the Company.
You will need to complete a ‘CARE Application form’ which is available in the document library.

If you were a contributing member to the AA Pension Scheme prior as at 30 June 2017, you were automatically transferred into this Section of the Scheme with effect from 1 July 2017.
If you do not join CARE within your first 12 months of starting work for the AA, you will be classed as a late joiner.
This means benefits in respect of life cover, ill health and spouse’s and dependant’s benefits will be phased in over a 5-year period. After 5 years, you will be covered in full. Please refer to Death Benefits section of the website for more information.
If you opt out and then decide you want to rejoin, you can apply to do so provided you are still employed by the Company.
You will be treated as a late joiner as above.
Membership is voluntary and once a member, you can choose to opt out at any time providing you complete and return an ‘Opt-out of the Scheme form’ to the AA payroll department. You can download this form from the Document library.
If you are thinking about opting-out or not joining CARE, please give this matter very careful consideration and, if necessary, seek appropriate financial advice.
If you opt-out, you will no longer continue to be covered for the lump sum ‘Death in service’ benefit. No further retirement benefits will be earned and those earned up to the date you opt-out will be the same as if you had left service. Your contributions will stop and you will be liable to pay full National Insurance contributions (NICs).
